What are some of the things that matter to you in this election?

Laura: “On a large scale, climate change is probably the biggest issue on my mind. We need to take action on that pretty fast.”

Halley: “The housing situation, people are trying to build a future right now, and you need a base.”

Why are you endorsing Mike?

“He cares. Mike cares. He cares about the issues Greens support. He cares about Kitchener. He cares enough to go out and knock on door after door.  He can get stuff done - look at what he has already gotten done in this region. He encompasses everything I want to see in my representative.”

What do you hope to achieve personally/ professionally in your life?

Laura: "Well, we'd like to get married sometime in the next few years, so that's pretty exciting! Professionally, I'd like to continue in my career in the library, and outside of work volunteering in local environmental groups and feeling like I am in some way helping contribute to positive change."

Halley: "I want to help create change...my main professional goal is to get into carpentry and use my schooling to help build tiny homes, ideally from reclaimed materials. We'd like to one day be owners of our own little home!"

Are you hopeful about the future?

Laura: “If you had asked me this even a few months ago, I might have a different answer, but there have been some moments lately which have been encouraging. The world is waking up...with these climate strikes happening, climate change recently becoming a mainstream issue now, not just something environmentalists talk about. That is encouraging.”

Halley: “I will be hopeful... so long as we keep getting more people like Elizabeth May and Mike elected - I think the future looks a lot brighter then.”

If you could change one thing today what would it be?

Laura: “If I could change one thing today… I would say no more oil comes out of the ground... and we move away from being so dependant on fossil fuels to using a lot more renewable energies".

Halley: “ Honestly, more people eating plant based. If people could realize the environmental impacts of animal agriculture and meat consumption... I think the world would be a lot better off."

What do you hope to see in a politician/political campaign?

Laura: “Honesty and integrity. They must be able to follow through. And a politician who has a genuine passion for what they are working for.”

Halley: “Honesty would be a nice change. Actually to create change and not just using words. Someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Also, somebody who is down to earth and understands, and not trying to be above the people. They need to know the area they are campaigning in.”
