Community Safety

Our goal is to engage in conversations that are respectful, constructive, and in line with Green values. We welcome questions, comments, and replies that contribute to and enhance discussions.

However, we have an absolute zero tolerance for:

  • Profanity

  • Harassment

  • Discrimination

  • Any other behaviour that makes any community members feel unsafe

If you encounter any inappropriate behavior, please report it directly to us at kitchener.centre@greenparty.ca. We will review all reports and take appropriate action.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the campaign’s activities, you can send an email to kitchener.centre@greenparty.ca. For more information please read the Green Party’s Members’ Code of Conduct and the Green Party’s Values.

Canvassing

The following are our guiding principles and best practices for canvassing, for the safety of our volunteers and the respect we have for members of our community.

Guiding Principles

We actively listen. Mike Morrice would first and foremost like to learn how he can best represent constituents as your MP.

We engage in respectful discussion when we disagree, in the interest of better serving our community.

We are authentic in sharing from our own experience. We’ll admit when we don’t know, and promise someone will follow up.

We collect contact information in the interest of helping constituents exercise their right to vote and participate in democracy.

Best Practices for Canvassers

Safety comes first. Avoid dangerous terrain, animals and any threatening behaviour. Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. Canvass in pairs when possible. This is mandatory for canvassers under 18.

Be respectful of a resident’s space and property. After knocking, step back from the door. Don’t walk on the grass.

Canvassing is not solicitation. We help people exercise their right to vote. However, we respect when people specifically wish not to engage in a conversation or post a notice that doing so would be disruptive.

Do not remove other candidates’ literature.

Replies and Confidentiality

If you have a specific question or issue, please send it to kitchener.centre@greenparty.ca along with your address, postal code, and phone number. This will ensure your message stays confidential and that we can determine how best to help you.

Thank you for engaging with our community and helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all.
