Wooden Boat Food Company: Small Business Spotlight

See this content in the original post

Early in the pandemic, I wrote this post to draw attention to several communities that were clearly being left out of various support programs, amplifying the calls of many: while everyone may be in the same storm, we are certainly in different boats.

One of the communities mentioned at the time was small business owners, and as the pandemic has worn on, often it’s these same small businesses that have been hardest hit. Some have been forced to close while their big-box competitors stayed open.

In this series, I’m shining a spotlight on small businesses across our community.

On Monday night, Wooden Boat Food Company owner and executive chef Thompson Tran made time for a chat with me about his journey starting the company, the importance of collaboration and agility for small businesses, how his upbringing developed his music, sewing and culinary skills and strong work ethic, and how education and empathy can be an antidote to racism in our communities.

The Wooden Boat is currently open for take-out Thursday to Sunday, 4:30pm-7:30pm. Be sure to get your orders in early as they sell out each week!
